Perry was born on the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback) her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. Because of their fear of stress, the parents didn't want to see her pursue acting before she turned 18. Perry acknowledged that she was not at ease in the stage during high school, but started performing as a means to connect with new people at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, moved to New York in search of TV roles. She landed small parts in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But, her home-sickness led her to California to find theater work. Her mother and she appeared on Broadway together as part of The Other Place, in 2013. The show was directed by Eugene O'Neill. Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie and Kevin McKidd. This was performed in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry was featured nine times on the ABC film The Family, in 2016. She had a regular role in the ABC political drama Scandal that starred her dad. In the same year, she portrayed a child model of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother in a youthful version. The actress was chosen for the role in spite of her strong familial connection to the character.
